The Best of McKinney's Neighbors & Neighborhoods!: I Married A Wildebeest -- Here's How I Know.

I Married A Wildebeest -- Here's How I Know.

So, my husband and I are working back-to-back on our respective computers one evening, he -- answering emails, me -- blogging, when this innocent question is posed.

Lion and TigerME:  "Do you want to take a quick quiz?"

HE:  "No."

(Of course, I proceed to ask him, oh, I don't know . . . 21 questions!   Three minutes later . . .)

wildebeestHE:  "So . . . what animal am I?"

ME:  "A wildebeest."

HE:  "Oh, that's great! . . . the freakiest one!"

Me:  "Noooo, it's good! -- The wildebeest is the most enduring of the animals!  The quiz says that the wildebeest has resiliency and the ability to bounce back from adversity.  The wildebeest is adept to changing conditions and responds to set-backs and pressures.  Endurance gives us the ability to apply ourselves for long periods of time and to keep going even when our bodies want to quit!"

Lizard in sand

(Silence.  And typing.)

He:  "So, what are you?"

Me:  "A crocodile."

(Howls of laughter from him and many, many wise cracks . . . )

Big Mouth Hippo

Me:  "Hey, that's quite a bit of trash talk coming from a -- WILLLDEBEEST!  The Crocodile happens to be the most desirable of ALL the animals!"

He:  "Really?  Is that what the quiz said?"

Me:  "No."

(More ribbing and verbal sparring from both sides.)

He:  (blah, blah, blah!)   ". . .  and the only thing wrong with the wildebeest is when he bends down to drink from the watering hole the Crocodile leaps up and bites his head off!"

Ostrich

 (Sounds of crickets chirping.)

Meerkats standing in a rowMe:   "Hmmph . . . time to get the little hyenas tucked into bed."

Who are you living with?

Want to know?  Read the early release of the first two chapters of Stefan Swanepoel's Surviving Your Serengeti then give them the Surviving Your Serengeti Quiz and let me know what you find out!

If you're living with a wildebeest -- I'm here for you.

Together at the computer room.  Love endures.  Priceless.

Melanie, that's priceless!  Especially the part about the hyenas!  I think I will let my husband take this test now.

Ken:  So true!  How 'bout that wonderful wildebeest enthusiasm to try the new quiz!

Silvia:  You should!!! let me know what you both are!  Thanks for commenting :)

Melanie, I love your post - you made me laugh!

Respectfully yours, Giraffe.

You are good,  I could not get people I work with to take the quiz... much less my SO.  I have Wildebeest spelled wrong.  Spell check told me so but I was sure it was beast.

Posted by Maureen McCabe Columbus Ohio real estate (Real Living HER - HER Realtors) about 1 year ago

Maureen:  Thanks for stopping by!  Seems like it would be beast -- that's what I did at first.  OK, here's my post error that bothers the crocodile in me -- I tried to get all the pictures in the post to have colored frames and every time I saved it the bottom three photos would lose their borders.  I probably tried it at least 5 or six times, grrrr!

Melanie - I just had to come over and check your post - Oh my - you had me laughing like a hyeena!  Just love the dialogue between you and your husband - we can all relate!  The accompanying photos are fantastic, too!  A Wildebeest and a Crocodile - does that mesh with your zodiak signs?

I'm a Croc, and after reading this I should have my husband take the quiz too. I'm pretty sure he's not a croc but we'll see.

Such a good banter between the two of you. Not sure what my hubby is..and don't think he will take the quiz..but I will try.

Sally:  Funny!!!  You know, now that they changed the dates on the zodiac, I have no idea what I am anymore!  Thanks for stopping by!

Lynda:  Let us know!

Margaret:  Thank you for the pretty crocodile!!!  Good luck getting your husband to take the quiz -- I read the questions to mine while he worked and he told me his rankings.  (Such babying!)

Is that a crocodile trait, do you suppose, not to take no for an answer?

Melanie, the sun is just coming up in Santa Fe and this post has me LOL and waking up all our 4 on the floors! It is clear your computer room will never be the same. My partner is a lioness with elephant tendencies. I'm a crocodile! What fun to discover and share.

Emily:  Funny -- my apologies to your sleepy pets!  I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the story and learning more about these characteristics.  BTW, tried to follow you on Twitter but the link wasn't working this morning.

Note to Stefan Swanepoel:  Couldn't there possibly be a more attractive animal that has the same crocodile tendencies???  Just something to consider for the next book . . .

Hi Melanie~ I can totally relate, I'm a croc and my hubby is a wildebeest too!  I believe it makes for good balance at work (we partner together) and at home.  (BTW, Stefan is a member of Active Rain.  He may just stop by to comment!)

Posted by Donna Foerster, Metro Denver Real Estate Agent (Rocky Mountain Real Estate Advisors) about 1 year ago

Donna:  How interesting that you're the same match we are!  I agree, I think it is a great balance -- seems to be working, we just had the 21 year anniversary last month!  My husband is a lender, so we are able to work together often and always have lots of industry biz to talk about.

Melanie, I loved your verbal exchange.  I did the same thing to my husband, turns out he is a crocodile.  I thought for sure he was a cheeta becaues of his profession - a commercial pilot.  He guessed right away that I'm a lion.  I guess I can credit my Naval officer training for that!

Melanie, can't hardly wait to read those first two chapters.  I am definitely going to take the quiz and give it to my husband too, the results should be interesting.

Melanie - I loved reading your post.  You and your hubby sound like me and mine.  He did take it and as fate would have it - we're both Wildebeests.  LOL  We both got a kick out of that.

Posted by Donne Knudsen CalState Realty Services (Los Angeles & Ventura Counties in CA) about 1 year ago

Suzanne:  Thanks for stopping by!  The quiz goes really quick and it's fun, too!

Donne:  Thanks!  How funny that you are both wildebeests! Did that surprise you that you were both the same animal?

How wonderful!  I haven't had my husband take the quiz, but I BETCHA he's a wildebeast!

Posted by Virginia Gardner Charlottesville Realtor Serving Central Virginia (Roy Wheeler Realty Co.) about 1 year ago

Melanie, I just got a chance to read this, you cracked me up!!! I was thinking when you were talking about the wildebeest's virtures that they have the ability to bounce right back after their partner was just eaten by a croc.. then you went on to BE the croc... ha.. so funny!!!

Posted by Tammy Emineth (Personal SEO - Website SEO and Real Estate Marketing) about 1 year ago

Virginia:  You're probably right -- it's not hard to spot a wildebeest!

Tammy:  Don't you know I just made his day when he found out I was labeled a "crocodile"!

That's a great spin on this topic of Serengeti animals.  Love your pictures and story.  I never thought to try the quiz on DH, but might have to do that.
